MAYOR ÖMER GÜNEL IMPLEMENTS CLOSE MONITORING OF STREET FOOD: "THE HEALTH OF OUR PEOPLE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING"

At the direction of Mayor Ömer Günel, Kuşadası Municipality has increased its inspections of street food outlets across the city. During the inspections, municipal police officers took samples of the products sold and warned employees to adhere to hygiene and health regulations. Mayor Ömer Günel stated;

 "The health of our people is more important than anything else to us."

The death of an expatriate family in Istanbul from food poisoning was met with deep sorrow in Kuşadası, as it was throughout Türkiye. Following Mayor Ömer Günel's instructions, Kuşadası Municipality Police Department teams intensified their inspections of street food outlets throughout the city. Beginning early this morning, teams inspected all street food outlets, particularly along the coastline, in accordance with the Kuşadası Municipality Police Administrative Sanctions Regulation. During the inspections, samples were taken from the food sold to be sent to the Kuşadası District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Shopkeepers were also re-informed about hygiene, storage conditions, and food safety. Any non-compliant products were collected for disposal.

Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel said;

“I offer my condolences to the families of those who came to Istanbul for vacation and lost their lives to food poisoning, Following this tragic incident, which has shaken us all, we have increased our inspections of all street food and food outlets in Kuşadası, one of Turkey's most important tourism cities. The health of our local and international visitors, as well as our fellow citizens, is paramount to us. Our municipal police teams conduct regular and frequent inspections 24/7. Due to it being the weekend, inspections will be intensified, especially in areas where street food sales are high.”
