Miletus

Miletus

Miletus is located in proximity of Balat Village in Yenihisar County. It is known that the first settlement in Miletus was Myken Colony after mids of 2000 B.C. Then, Miletus was re-established by Ionians under leadership of Nekus, son of King of Athens. It was the most important harbor city of Ionia. There were four piers. Its most magnificent period was around 7th and 6th Centuries B.C. Especially, afterwards of 650 B.C., the city prospered owing to the relationship of its colonies in the Blacksea and Mediterranean Sea. Finally, it was captured by Persians in 546 B.C. It was an independent city in Roman period.In the early Christian period, although it was important center, residential area shrank. Afterwards of Seljukian rule in the 13th Century, Ottomans conquered the city. In the ruins of the city, there are Miletus Ancient Theatre, Faustina Bath, Agora, Parade Street, Monumental Fountain, Gymnasium, Virgilius Capito, Bath, Turkish Bath, Athena Temple, Stadium, Delphinion, Port Monument, Zeus Olympios Temenosu, Bouleuterion (Senate Building), and Temenos of Egyptian Gods.
